![]() ![]() PROFILE OF ARTAYASAAt first he loved painting figure. Now, he prefers abstract. But, the artistic of his fine art is still in the same character. When the changes in social and politics became a major theme for most artists in this country-including Bali-I Made Artayasa keeps his own creative in fine art based on intuition that motivated him-a form of the simplest about self freedom in his fine art. For Artayasa, who was born in 1971 at Kerta Village-Payangan, Gianyar , art is a freedom. He feels away from being locked when painting although he paints everyday. In his wide studio surrounded by green lush trees, he keeps painting with passion. His arts spirit is away from art, political, and tendency disputes. "I want to say is that what I have done so far is because of movements in my heart. I paint figure or abstract is as happy as when I paint inside or outside the studio", said alumnus of STSI Denpasar (now ISI) at his studio. The heart movement and bliss that make him do his art works without burden and without pretending to raise critical issues.
He feels the important of having a good relation between arts and daily activities. This means that other than intuition, his arts need inspiration from surrounding. "Some events that I experienced, even the simple one, became inspiration for my arta", he said. Events such as cock fighting, traditional market, and daily activities have become a major source of inspiration for him. "When watching cock fighting I feel the presence of many forms showing many expressions and for me they generate my art intuition", said artist who got the second best artist in Lomba Lukis Tingkat Umum during the celebration of the 50th Indonesia anniversary. He once tried to paint a figure that was inspired by a drunken man. The drunken man has deeply inspired him and soon he painted a vague person on his canvas with vague colours. "A thing that is so deeply embed my soul usually very easy to put on canvas", he said. What he believes to be the source for his creative give a strong motivation to create new ideas in his artworks, something that he calls "a new sensation in line movement, colour, and texture that is free or wild". And indeed that is true for most of his recent artworks. Although conventionally what Artayasa tries to visualized is abstract, but the figure "footprint" and symbolic realization can be found on his latest artworks. Artayasa's passion on figure and the inanimate world do not necessarily disappear although his intuition tends to love abstract. "When I paint outside the studio, I prefer painting the mountainside, because it offers me a new inspiration or new responds", said father of two daughters. He always trusts his heart movement and intuition and feels do not have to get trapped into today's trend in fine arts. And indeed this has free him to paint figure, abstract, sketch about woman and inanimate world just as he run his life smoothly without any worries. He does his artworks without load, pretense, and without temptation to be a "great artist" soon. He relies that these are what artists wanted-to balance their own life and artwork.
The prize for his seriousness come from other responds. Many art lovers from Bali and foreign countries have collected his artworks. They are mainly from the Netherlands, Australia, Korea, Singapore, and other countries. Dr. dr. Med. Habil Wolf Bernhard Schil, a doctor and a lecturer from the Netherlands, always visits his studio whenever Dr. Schil visits Bali. "Their responds are varies. They can express and feel something in my paintings", he said. "That is normal because painting gives impression and certain meanings to the art lovers", he added.
He spends his day in his studio called Artayasa Fine Art Studio that is located on Jalan Raya Desa Kerta 99X, Payangan, Gianyar. In his quite studio-other than painting-he always spends his time chatting with collectors and art critics for hours. One day after a hard painting day, he was asleep on his sofa. Two female tourists came and awake him. Thomas U. Freitag, a famous artist on Bali, have also experienced this.
For more than a decade he has performed joint exhibition in major towns in Indonesia.Once he has exhibition in Japan with his fellow artists. Now, he is busy preparing his solo exhibition that will take place in Ubud around December. "I have to prepare it seriously because I will dedicate this exhibition for art appreciation", he said.
